Nucleolus

Organelle:

Site of transcription of ribosomal RNA.

Purpose

Directs the production of proteins.

Function

The nucleolus (NU) is composed of granules (RNA & protein), fibrils (RNP), chromatin and a proteinaceous matrix. The intranucleolar chromatin consists of the genes from which ribosomal RNA (28S, l8S and 5.8S) is transcribed. The nucleolus plays a roll in making protiens.

Location

With in the nucleus

Number
